Things to Watch For
*- Saturday's ECAC South West Bowl is the first-ever postseason football game played at John F. Wiley Stadium. The event is free to the public and can also be followed by way of live statistics, audio and video through links at www.waynesburgsports.com.

*- Waynesburg and Carnegie Mellon will meet in a varsity game for the first time since 1963. However, the two programs know each other very well, as they have held a traditional preseason scrimmage for the past few seasons. The two teams met this year on Wednesday, Aug. 22, on a hot, sunny afternoon at John F. Wiley Stadium.

*- Both teams are adept at running the football. The Yellow Jackets boasted the top rushing attack in the PAC (202.0 ypg) this season, and were led by junior first-team All-PAC running back Bertrand Ngampa. Ngampa ended 2012 as the number-two runner in the conference, yardage-wise, going off for career-high 883 yards and seven touchdowns. He is currently riding a four-game streak with at least 100 yards rushing. CMU also led its conference, the University Athletic Association, in rushing with a 178.8 ypg average. The Tartans didn't just lead their conference in rushing, as they also paced the four-team league in passing (201.6 ypg), total offense (380.4 ypg) and scoring (29.9 ppg).

*- While the Tartans' specialty is moving the ball and lighting up the scoreboard, Waynesburg prefers to lean on its defense, which boasts eight All-PAC honorees. The Yellow Jackets finished second in the league in scoring defense (17.5 ppg), fourth in total defense (291.1 ypg) and first in rush defense (100.4 ypg).

*- After decades of being known as a run-first, or even a run-only, offense, CMU's attack has added a passing game to its arsenal, thanks in large part to junior quarterback Rob Kalkstein. The two-year starter comes into Saturday's game ready to blow past several school records. He needs just four yards to set the school's single-season passing record (1,964) and two completions will give him the Tartan record for completions in a season (128).

*- One way that Waynesburg could minimize Kalkstein's impact is to get to the diminutive (5-10, 180) quarterback early and often with one of the PAC's best pass rushes. Led by first-team All-PAC defensive end Brandon Fedorka (9.5 sacks, 14.5 tackles for loss), the Jackets have recorded the third-most sacks in the PAC with 23. CMU has also given up the most sacks in the UAA with 23. On the other side of the ball, the Jacket offensive line has been one of the best in Division III when it comes to protecting its quarterback. Waynesburg has allowed just five sacks for over 10 games, which is good enough to tie the Yellow Jackets for fifth in the country. Carnegie Mellon has picked up 21 sacks this year.

*- An advantage that the visiting Tartans appear to have over their hosts is in penalties. CMU has given up an average of just 38.6 penalty yards per game, while Waynesburg has been penalized more than anyone in the PAC, averaging 66.8 yards per contest. Carnegie Mellon has also done a better job of protecting the football, sporting a plus-eight in turnover margin. The Jackets are on the other side of that particular statistic with a minus-six turnover margin.

*- A win by the Yellow Jackets would give Waynesburg its first 10-victory season since the 1966 NAIA national championship team.
