MEADVILLE, Pa. (Nov. 17) – The Waynesburg University women's basketball team  picked up its first win of 2012 in dominant fashion by downing Penn State Altoona 91-44 at the Greg Richards '08 Memorial Tip-Off Tournament, which was hosted by Allegheny College. The Yellow Jackets (1-1) beat the Lions (0-2) in the event's consolation game.

Waynesburg jumped out to an 8-0 lead over the first 2:46 of action, but Altoona responded to the early challenge and actually took a one-point lead (21-20) with just over six minutes to play in the first half. However, the Jackets retook control of the contest and built up a 34-24 advantage at halftime. The Yellow Jackets blew the game open in the second period by outscoring Altoona 57-20 over the final 20 minutes of action.

Senior forward Paige Pearce not only led Waynesburg to victory over the Lions with 15 points, eight rebounds and three steals, but the veteran was also named to the all-tournament team. Senior guard Jessi Drayer poured in a game-high 16 points, ripped down a team-best nine rebounds and dished out five assists, while freshman Heather Davis came off the bench to contribute 10 points to the winning cause.

Waynesburg dominated its opposition on the board, out-rebounding Altoona by a 58-to-37 margin. The Yellow Jackets also did a much better job when it came to protecting the basketball, forcing the Lions into 37 turnovers, while committing 19 of their own.

The Jackets are back in action on Tuesday, Nov. 20, when Mt. Aloysius comes to the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse for a 4 p.m. tipoff.
