WAYNESBURG, Pa. (March 19) – This past Sunday, the Waynesburg men's club volleyball team had a tri-match scheduled with West Virginia University and the University of Pittsburgh. Unfortunately, Pitt did not show up and elected to forfeit the match. The match against WVU was changed from a three-set contest to a five-set affair.
The Mountaineers and Jackets needed all five of those sets to determine a winner, which turned out to be WVU, who scored a 3-2 victory. The Jackets came up on the short end of the marathon battle 21-25, 25-17, 25-23, 26-24, 13-15. Waynesburg's record improved to 6-6 on the year.
“It was a tough day and a hard loss to handle,” said senior outside hitter
Jake Reynolds. “In the end, we just made too many mistakes, and that's always a frustrating way to lose such a close match.”
Prior to the loss to WVU, Waynesburg scored a win this past Friday at Robert Morris in four sets. With the 3-1 (25-10, 25-14, 23-25, 25-23) victory the Jackets improved to 5-5 on the year.
“We came out on fire, got complacent, and picked it back up,” said senior right side hitter
Jesse Famularo. “We got away with it today, but we can't afford to do that all the time.”
The Jackets are back in action in the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse this Tuesday at 4p.m., when Northland International University, a school in Dunbar, Wisc., makes a trip to the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse.
