WAYNESBURG, Pa. (April 30) – Saturday's Waynesburg vs. Westminster baseball doubleheader will not only be the Yellow Jackets' regular season finale, but it will also serve as a stage for the Jackets to say thank you to America's servicemen and women.
The Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader will play host to Waynesburg's third annual “Salute the Troops” ceremony, during which all service men and women, both active and inactive, will be honored for their invaluable sacrifice to our country. Prior to the twin-bill, which is scheduled to get started at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 5, all U.S. military veterans are asked to sign in at the entrance to the Jackets' home field for a raffle that will be held after game two. The prize is a game-worn Waynesburg jersey. Winners need not be in attendance, but will need to provide contact information for distribution of the jersey. However, this is just one of several highlights to the day.
Any and all veterans in the stands will be recognized in between games for their service to the United State of America and the team is planning on having refreshments for honorees as well.
Any military personnel are encouraged to attend the games, which are admission-free, and arrive early to register. For more information, contact head baseball coach
Mike Humiston at mhumisto@waynesburg.edu or Waynesburg University sports information at rfox@waynesburg.edu.
Saturday's game could also play a major role in whether or not the Yellow Jackets get into the four-team PAC postseason tournament. Waynesburg is currently in fourth place in the PAC standings by just a half game, as of Monday, April 30.
