Waynesburg will travel to Erie for first-round game in ECAC South Tournament

CENTERVILLE, Mass. (May 14) – The Waynesburg University baseball team will end a seven-year postseason absence on Wednesday, May 16, when the Yellow Jackets will take part in the seven-team Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) South tournament.

The sixth-seeded Jackets, who wrapped up the 2012 season with a 22-18 overall record, which are the program's most wins since going 23-17-1 in 2003, will travel to Erie, Pa. to face third-seeded Penn State Behrend on Wednesday, with first pitch scheduled to be thrown at 2 p.m. Ironically, The Jackets were last in the ECAC tournament in 2003, when they faced Behrend in a 7-5 losing effort. Waynesburg's last overall postseason appearance came in 2005 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) tournament.

The Jackets and Lions will battle for a trip to Delaware on either Friday or Saturday for the semifinals, which will be hosted by top-seeded Wesley College. Waynesburg and Behrend met up earlier this year in Waynesburg, with the two squad splitting a seven-inning doubleheader. The Jackets downed the Lions 5-3 in game one, but fell 6-2 in the late contest. For a complete look at the single-elimination 2012 ECAC South baseball tournament, click here.

The two schools have plenty of recent ECAC postseason history as the Waynesburg women's basketball team and their counterparts from Behrend have met in the hoops postseason each of the last two years.
