WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Jan 19.) – The Waynesburg University women's basketball team shot 48 percent from the field and cruised to a 76-54 victory over visiting Bethany College on Saturday afternoon at the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse.
With the victory, the Jackets improved to 7-3 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) and 8-9 overall. Bethany dropped to 3-7 in the PAC and 5-12 for the season.
The two teams went back-and-forth for the first eight minutes of competition before the Jackets grabbed a four-point lead at the 12:10 mark following a layup by senior forward
Paige Pearce that pushed the score to 12-8. Waynesburg never trailed from that point on, as the Jackets methodically worked their lead up to as many as 14 points in the first half, when freshman
Heather Davis sunk a jumper to make the score 33-19 at the 2:55 mark of the first half. Waynesburg held a 35-24 lead at halftime.
After a Bison free throw closed the Jackets' lead to 10 at 35-25 in the second half, Waynesburg used a 7-0 run to extend its lead to 42-25 at the 16:25 mark. The Jackets continued to lead by as many as 13 until Bethany closed to 46-35 with 13:40 left to play. From that point on, the Jackets built up leads as big as 27 points, before wrapping up the victory.
Waynesburg picked up the win despite being out-rebounded by a slim 44-to-42 margin.
Drayer tallied a team-high 14 points to lead the Jackets' offense. Pearce also finished in double figures with 11 points and a team-best nine rebounds. Junior

Brittany Spencer poured in eight in the win.
Waynesburg looks to make it to two victories in a row when the Jackets travel to Grove City on Wednesday. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
