Things to Watch For:
-
The Yellow Jackets and Golden Tornadoes get together for the 77th time on the gridiron Saturday afternoon. Waynesburg leads the all-time series 42-30-4. The two teams first met in 1908 with Waynesburg prevailing 5-0. The rivals did not meet from 1992 through 2006 after Waynesburg joined the Presidents' Athletic Conference. However, the two programs have played each season since 2007. Waynesburg has won four of those six matchups.
-
For the second consecutive Saturday at John F. Wiley Stadium, the matchup features two of the top offenses in the PAC. Geneva comes into Saturday's contest ranked second in the PAC in scoring offense (36.8), first in total offense (467.7) and second in passing offense (297.0). The Golden Tornadoes feature a balanced offense that includes the second-ranked passer in the PAC, second ranked receiver in the conference and fourth-best rusher.
-
Quarterback play should be another area to watch as the matchup features two of the conference's best under center. The two signal callers, Waynesburg junior Carter Hill and Geneva senior Zack Hayward, rank second and third, respectively, in the PAC in passing yards. Hill has passed for an astonishing 19 touchdowns and thrown just one interception. Hayward has 10 touchdown tosses and three interceptions.
-
Another key in Saturday's contest will be which team fares better on third downs. The Golden Tornadoes convert 46.1 percent of third downs on offense, while they limit their opponents to convert just 30.9 percent, which ranks tops in the PAC. Waynesburg has converted 45.4 percent of its third-down tries.Â
-
On the defensive side of the ball, the PAC showdown features two of the top defensive players in the conference in Waynesburg's Brandon Fedorka and Geneva's Dillon Goodell. Fedorka leads all PAC defenders in sacks (8.5) and tackles for loss (12.0). Goodell ranks first in the PAC in tackles per game with 10.3 a contest.
-
Saturday's game is another big one in the conference standings. Geneva comes in tied with Bethany as both have 3-1 PAC conference records, which puts them just a half-game behind first-place Thomas More and Washington and Jefferson. Waynesburg is right behind those four teams with a 3-2 league mark.
-
Waynesburg will honor its 24 seniors before the contest against Geneva. This group of Yellow Jackets has compiled a 26-12 record over the past four seasons, including a PAC Co-Championship a season ago, an ECAC Southwest Bowl title over Carnegie Mellon in 2012 and an appearance in the ECAC South Atlantic Bowl in 2011.
