Things to Watch For:
-
Saturday's game marks the third-straight postseason appearance for the Waynesburg football team, which is the longest such active streak of any team in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC).
-
Waynesburg senior defensive end Brandon Fedorka continues to put the finishing touches on one of the finest playing careers in program history. Heading into this weekend, he is tied for 17th in Division III in tackles for loss (18.5) and tied for 11th in sacks (11.5). The 2013 PAC Defensive MVP is also second among all active players, regardless of Division, in terms of career sacks (33.0).
-
While Fedorka is the big name for Waynesburg defensively, junior quarterback Carter Hill has stolen headlines with his prodigious offensive numbers all season. His school-record 2,883 yards passing have him ranked 10th in Division III, while his school-record 27 touchdown passes are good enough to tie him for 11th place.
-
As Waynesburg is led by its veteran standouts, Brockport is enjoying one of its best seasons in recent history because of a pair of fantastic freshmen. Running back Dan Andrews has been the team's top offensive weapon since taking over the bulk of the carries on Oct. 12. After rushing for just five yards on two carries over the first four weeks of the season, Andrews exploded for 1,043 yards and 10 touchdowns on 157 carries during the final six contests on the schedule. Turning to the other side of the line of scrimmage, defensive end Cortland Haines has put up Fedorka-like numbers in his first collegiate season. The rookie has compiled 60 total tackles, 8.0 sacks and 12.5 tackles for loss.
-
If Saturday's bowl game comes down to special teams, Waynesburg's Alex Henry should give head coach Rick Shepas plenty of confidence on a game-deciding field goal try. The first-team All-PAC pick is tied for 17th in the country in field goals made per game and his 11 made attempts are the most for a Waynesburg kicker since 2008 (13).
-
The Waynesburg defense better be ready for anything when facing a very balanced Brockport offense. The Golden Eagles average 210.3 yards rushing and 246.5 yards passing per game. However, they have turned the ball over 24 times in 2013, a number which could certainly be taken advantage of by the Jackets, who boast a plus-12 turnover margin, which is good for 20th in Division III.
-
The Jacket offense has been exceptional at getting on the scoreboard early. Waynesburg has out-scored its opposition 104-40 in the first quarter, which is by far the team's best mark of the four period of play. Brockport has also had success in the opening 15 minutes. The Golden Eagles have put up 58 points in the opening quarter, but have held opposing squads to just 27 points.
