Box Score

ALLIANCE, Ohio (Nov. 23) – The Waynesburg University women's basketball team completed its two-day run at the M-Club Invitational, hosted by the University of Mount Union, on Saturday. The Yellow Jackets fell 91-69 to Denison University.

The Big Red (4-1) started off strong by scoring the contest's first four points before Jacket (0-4) sophomore point guard Lauren Blair drained a three-point field goal to cut the deficit to 4-3 at the 18:38 mark. Denison then rattled off back-to-back buckets to push the lead to 9-3 before sophomore Maura Bobby made a layup.

Denison pushed its lead to double digits for the first time after converting a pair of free throws to make it 17-7 at the 11:06 mark. The Big Red pushed its lead to the largest margin of the first half by hitting a jumper to make it 37-14 with 3:43 to play in the first half. Waynesburg showed plenty of fight, as the Jackets scored the final eight points of the first half to make it 37-22 Big Red.

Unfortunately, Waynesburg couldn't carry the momentum out of the break. The Big Red pushed its last back to 20 points at 51-31 at the 15:20 mark of the second half. However, Waynesburg battled back to cut the lead down to just 12 points when sophomore Brooke Simons converted a layup. The Simons basket made it 65-53 after a 22-14 run over the next eight plus minutes.

Unfortunately for Waynesburg, the Big Red effectively ended any chance of a Jacket comeback by using an 11-0 run of their own to push the lead back over 20 points at 76-53 with 4:04 to play.

Sophomore Heather Davis led the Jackets' offensive attack by pouring in a team-high 17 points, including connecting on five three-point field goals. Davis was named to the all-tournament team after averaging 12.0 points per game for the Jackets.

Blair also finished in double figures with 10 points. Simons led the Jackets on the glass with six rebounds.

Waynesburg takes another shot at its first victory of the season with a trip to Cresson, Pa. to face Mount Aloysius College on Tuesday. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
