Men's tennis opens up the spring with a win over UPG

GREENSBURG, Pa. (Feb. 22) – The Waynesburg University men's tennis team got the spring off to a good start by sweeping Friday's doubles matches on its way to a 7-2 win against Pitt-Greensburg.
 
The Yellow Jackets (3-0) scored their first victory of the day when sophomores Isaiah Cochran and Colin Phillips put together an 8-4 victory at first doubles. Seniors Jon Anderson and Corey Rearick made it two-for-two with an 8-2 triumph at second doubles, before sophomore Philip Littlejohn and junior Nate Huffman completed the three-flight sweep with an 8-4 beating of their UPG (0-1) opposition at the third slot.
 
After putting together a 3-0 cushion in doubles action, Cochran completed the first of three 2-0 days for Waynesburg by beating Zack Pivorotto in straight sets 6-4, 7-5. Littlejohn sealed the team win with a 6-0, 6-2 second-singles victory over Jakob Schafer.
 
With the match already decided, Greensburg closed the gap with wins at third and fourth singles, before the Jackets ended their day on a high note with victories at the number-five and six spots. Rearick beat Jay Sheth 6-2, 6-2 at fifth singles, before senior Joe Kromer wrapped things up by beating CJ Abenes 7-5, 6-4.
 
Waynesburg returns to action on Friday, March 1, when it travels to NCAA Division II opponent Malone University. Start time is scheduled for 8 p.m.
