WAYNESBURG, Pa. (April 3) – The Waynesburg University men's tennis team opened up Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) competition on Wednesday with a tightly contested battle against the visiting Bethany Bison. Thanks to some outstanding work in the singles flights, the Jackets were able to come back from an early deficit to down Bethany 5-4.

Waynesburg (4-3, 1-0) fell into an early hole after the Bison (3-7, 1-4) took two of the three doubles matches to open the contest. However, senior Jon Anderson and sophomore Philip Littlejohn won a crucial 8-2 decision at the number-two spot to avoid what could have been a match-deciding sweep.

Things turned around in singles competition, where the home team swept every match from slots two-through-five on its way to a win. Littlejohn got things rolling with a 6-4, 6-0 victory at the number-two spot, and he was followed by Anderson at third singles, who came back after dropping the first set to take the individual contest 5-7, 6-2, 6-2.

With Waynesburg on a roll, senior Corey Rearick got into the win column thanks to a hard-fought 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 triumph at fourth singles. The Yellow Jackets sealed up the win when sophomore Colin Phillips won in straight sets 7-6 (5), 6-2. The Bison picked up a victory at sixth singles, but it was too little, too late for the visitors.

The Jackets will look to ride the momentum of their thrilling win into tomorrow's PAC road match at Washington & Jefferson. Start time is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
