WASHINGTON, Pa. (April 4) – For the second-straight day, the Waynesburg University men's tennis team pulled out a thrilling Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) victory by the final score of 5-4 on Thursday. The Yellow Jackets came back from an early deficit to beat Washington & Jefferson on its home courts to improve to 2-0 in PAC play.

The Presidents (3-4, 2-1) took an early 2-1 lead following the completion of the three doubles matches. However, much like its 5-4 win over Bethany on Wednesday, Waynesburg's (5-3, 2-0) one doubles victory proved to be crucial to an overall win. Freshman Zack Graham and senior Corey Rearick scored an 8-1 triumph at third doubles after their teammates lost a pair of close matches at the number-one and number-two spots.

The Jackets erased the early deficit by taking four-of-six singles contests. Sophomore Isaiah Cochran got things going with a 6-3, 6-1 win at the number-one spot, while W&J took the victory at the number-two position. Waynesburg was able to put the match away by sweeping the fourth, fifth and sixth singles clashes.

Senior Jon Anderson found himself locked in a back-and-forth battle with Dane Thomas at the number-three solos spot. After dropping the opening set, Anderson fired back with convincing triumphs in sets two and three to take the match 4-6, 6-1, 6-2. Wins four and five on the day came with less drama for the visiting team, as Rearick wrapped up a 2-0 day by scoring a 6-4, 6-4 victory at fourth singles. Sophomore Colin Phillips clinched the overall match victory for the Orange and Black by winning 6-1, 6-2 at the number-five spot.

After playing three matches in three days, Waynesburg will look to improve to 3-0 in conference play on Saturday, April 6, when Westminster comes to town for Yellow Jacket senior day. Start time is scheduled for 12 p.m.
