Men's basketball faces number-one team in PAC

Bearcats down Yellow Jackets 87-68

LATROBE, Pa. (Jan. 22) – The Waynesburg University men's basketball team traveled to Saint Vincent College on Wednesday to face off with the top team in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC). The Yellow Jackets trailed by just six points at halftime, but the home team cranked up its offensive attack in the second period en route to an 87-68 victory over the Orange and Black.
 
The Bearcats (15-2, 8-0) opened the game on an 8-2 run and never trailed on the evening. After falling behind 21-15 with 8:53 remaining in the first half, the Jackets (8-9, 3-5) combined a free throw from junior forward Jason Propst and a layup from junior guard Kenny Klase to pull to within a single basked at 21-18 with just over eight minutes until halftime. Saint Vincent rebuilt multi-basket leads for the remainder of the period and took a 39-33 advantage into the locker room.
 
The home team kept things rolling into the second half and expanded its lead to 61-38 after out-scoring Waynesburg 22-to-five over the first 7:48 of play. The Jackets whittled their deficit down to 14 points several times, but SVC rebuilt a game-high 23-point lead on multiple occasions before finishing off the PAC victory.
 
Freshman guard Christian Koroly came off the bench to score a team-high 10 points over just 16 minutes of work. He was one of six Jackets to score at least seven points in the loss. Junior forward Jason Propst tossed in nine points and pulled down a team-high seven rebounds. Junior guard Byrum Louco matched Propst's nine-point output. Waynesburg held a minor 39-to-35 edge in team rebounding.
 
The Yellow Jackets return to the court on Saturday, Jan. 25, when they travel to Bethany College to face the Bison. Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
