Men's basketball travels to Bethany

Ellis scores 15 in 79-67 loss to Bison

BETHANY, W.Va. (Jan. 25) – The Waynesburg University men's basketball team braved Saturday's freezing temperatures and snowy conditions to battle Bethany College in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) matchup. The Yellow Jackets fell behind by 13 points and weren't able to climb out of the hole, as they dropped a 79-67 final score to the Bison.
 
Waynesburg (8-10, 3-6) trailed 41-28 at halftime, but cut its deficit down to just five points (46-41) after putting together a 13-to-five run early in the period. Junior guard Byrum Louco got things going with a pair of made free throws, before junior guard Kenny Klase knocked down a three-pointer. Louco added a layup, while junior forward Jason Propst dropped in a pair of layups during the surge.
 
A Bethany (14-4, 7-2) layup re-established a seven-point lead at 48-41, but junior forward Thomas Ellis responded with a layup of his own to trim the deficit back down to a handful of points. (48-43). The visitors stayed within striking distance for most of the remainder of the contest, but Bethany connected on five unanswered points via free throws to grow a 74-65 edge with 1:35 left in the contest, to a more robust 79-65 advantage.
 
Ellis came off the bench to pour in a Waynesburg-high 15 points on five-of-nine shooting. Louco and Klase chipped in 10 points each, as well as eight and seven rebounds, respectively.  Propst added eight points, a team-high four assists and two blocked shots.
 
After connecting on just 32 percent of its field goals tries in the first half, the Yellow Jackets caught fire while shooting 60 percent from the floor in period number two. Waynesburg also held a slight 34-to-31 edge in total rebounding.
 
The Jackets are back in action on Wednesday, Jan. 29, when they play host to Grove City. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Waynesburg will be looking to avenge a heart-breaking 70-68 loss to the Wolverines back on Friday, Jan. 3.
