MARIETTA, Ohio (Nov. 18) – The Waynesburg University men's basketball team traveled to Marietta on Tuesday night for its first road game of the season. After leading by just 12 at halftime, the host Pioneers put together a big second period to pull away from the Yellow Jackets for a 96-44 win.
Waynesburg (0-2) scored first on a three-pointer by junior guard
B.J. Durham, which was the only basket for either team over the first six minutes of play. Marietta (3-0) responded with a 7-2 run to grab a 7-5 advantage, which was short-lived thanks to a trey from senior wing
Jacob Fleegle.
Unfortunately, the Yellow Jackets never led again on the night, as the host team took a 34-22 halftime advantage and went on to victory from that point forward. Marietta shot an impressive 65 percent from the floor in the second half, including a whopping 71 percent (12-of-17) from three-point range.
Durham led the Jackets with a team-high nine points in the loss. He also grabbed five rebounds.
Waynesburg will look to shake off Tuesday's loss this weekend when it takes part in the Great Lakes Challenge, which is being hosted by Calvin College. The Yellow Jackets square off with Calvin on Friday. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
