FROSTBURG, Md. (Nov. 25) – The Waynesburg University men's basketball team led late into the second half of Tuesday's game at Frostburg State. Unfortunately, the Yellow Jackets gave up a significant run to the Bobcats and suffered an 85-70 loss.
Waynesburg (1-4) and FSU (2-2) played to a 35-35 tie at halftime. After the home team took a 38-35 lead on an old-fashioned three-point play to open the second period, the Jackets responded by exploding for an 11-0 run that put them ahead 46-38 with 16:55 left in the game.
The Orange and Black eventually grew its lead to as many as 10 points (51-41) and were up 63-56 with 7:44 showing on the clock. Unfortunately, that marked the beginning of the end for Waynesburg, as FSU electrified the home crowd with an 18-0 run that put the Bobcats ahead 74-63 with under two minutes left to play. The host squad cruised on to the 15-point victory.
Five different Waynesburg players scored at least 10 points each in the loss. Senior
Byrum Louco and
Thomas Ellis tied for the team lead with 13 points each, while senior
Jacob Fleegle, junior
B.J. Durham and junior
D.J. Ritchie chipped in 10 points a-piece. Senior
Jason Propst led Waynesburg in both rebounds (eight) and assists (four).
The Jackets will try to bounce back from the disappointing loss on Wednesday, Dec. 3, when they begin Presidents' Athletic Conference Play with a home game against Thomas More. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
