WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Feb. 12) – The Waynesburg University women's basketball team maintained its number-three spot in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) standings with an 80-69 win over visiting Thiel on Wednesday night at the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse.
The majority of the first half was a tightly contested affair between the two squads. However, with the Tomcats (4-18, 3-12) holding on to a slim 28-27 advantage with just under four minutes to go until halftime, the Yellow Jacket (12-10, 10-5) offense caught fire. Katie Gehlmann started a 16-1 run for the home team that put the Orange and Black ahead 43-29 with 1:43 showing on the scoreboard. Waynesburg maintained double-digit leads until the two teams broke for their respective locker rooms with the Jackets ahead 48-37.
Thiel got right back into the game after the second half commenced thanks to a 9-0 surge that took just 2:36 to accomplish. The home team not only stopped Thiel short of grabbing the lead back, but scored the next seven points to move ahead 55-46 at the 15:54 mark of the period.
Waynesburg never led by less than four points for the remainder of the contest and closed out the game on an 8-1 spurt that sealed up the win. It was the Jackets' fifth-straight triumph over Thiel.

Elaine Hasek and junior forward
Heather Davis, who scored 15 and 14 points, respectively. Hasek and Davis both pulled down a team-high nine rebounds. Sophomore guard
Lauren Blair helped out by dishing out a game-high eight assists.
The Jackets unleashed a long range barrage upon their opponents by connecting on 10-of-23 three-point attempts, including a blistering eight-for-10 performance in the first half. Junior guard
Hayden Giuliani buried three treys, which accounted for all nine of her points on the evening.
Waynesburg will look for a third-straight win on Saturday, Feb. 15, when Westminster comes to the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse. The Titans are just one game behind the Yellow Jackets and Washington & Jefferson in the conference standings.
