Men's tennis scores first win of the year

Yellow Jacket sweep doubles matches during 5-4 victory over D'Youville

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (March 22) - The Waynesburg University men's tennis team picked up its first win of the season Friday afternoon with a 5-4 victory over D'Youville College in a home match.  Several members of the Yellow Jackets (1-3) finished the day by winning both individual and double matches.
 
Waynesburg got off to a fantastic start by sweeping the three double matches of the day. Junior Isaiah Cochran teamed up with freshman Timothy Harris at the number-one spot for an 8-3 Yellow Jacket win. At second doubles, juniors Philip Littlejohn and junior Colin Phillips paired up to pick up the 8-1 win. The home team completed the doubles sweep thanks to the freshman tandem of Caleb Gaumer and James Manges, which bested the opposition by an 8-2 final.
 
Moving to singles competition, Cochran moved to 2-0 on the day by winning at first singles 6-4, 6-2. Phillips followed up with a victory two spots later at third singles by taking his match in three sets 6-2, 4-6, 6-3.
 
The Yellow Jackets will look to carry the momentum from Friday's win into their next scheduled match when they travel to Marietta College on Saturday, March 22 .Start time is scheduled for 11 a.m.
