AUBURNDALE, Fla. (March 8) – The Waynesburg University baseball team was swept in a doubleheader against The University of Mount Union on Saturday to open its stay at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational. The Purple Raiders (9-0) downed the Yellow Jackets (1-3) by scores of 5-0 and 15-1.
The opener began as a classic pitchers' duel between Waynesburg sophomore
Brian Resnik and Mount Union's Matt Murzynski. The Purple Raiders scored three runs with two outs in the fifth inning to open the scoring and went on to the win from there. Mount Union added two insurance runs off of freshman pitcher
Jacob Meyer in the seventh inning.
Resnik worked five innings, during which he surrendered three runs (all earned), while striking out nine Purple Raiders and walking two. The sophomore righty saw his record drop to 1-1 on the season. Freshmen Jonathan Kletzli and
Justin Davey collected a hit each in the shutout.
Mount Union scored at least one run in each of the seven innings of game two. The Purple Raiders jumped out to a 6-0 lead before the Jackets scored their lone run of the day in the third inning. Junior second baseman
Neal Yakopin got hit by a pitch and moved to third on a single by freshman catcher

Ben Shorthouse each collected a hit in the game-two loss. Freshman
Parker Beatty took the loss on the mound after surrendering six runs (all earned) over 2.2 innings pitched.
Waynesburg looks to get back on the right track when it faces Penn State Abington tomorrow morning. First pitch is set for 9 a.m.
