WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Oct. 10) – The members of the Waynesburg University men's soccer team will certainly be able to enjoy the school's fall break, which began this weekend. The Yellow Jackets put together their best performance on the pitch Saturday, as they secured their first win of the season by shutting out vising Thiel 5-0 in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match.
Five different players scored one goal each for Waynesburg (1-10-1, 1-1-1), including junior
Chad Palucka, who tallied the eventual game-winning goal in the 24
th minute. Sophomore
Zach Mitschke doubled his team's advantage roughly 14 minutes later off an assist from freshman
James Snyder. Another freshman,
Austin Zurik, closed the first-half scoring in the 41
st minute.
Senior
Victor Browne scored his team-leading third goal in the 49
th minute of play off a pass from freshman Caleb Young-Argyle. Junior
Josh Hennigh buried the final score of the day after 56:11 of play.
Waynesburg out-shot Thiel (2-10-1, 0-2-1) by a 22-to-eight margin and attempted five corner kicks. The Tomcats did not get the opportunity to put the ball in play from the corner flag. Senior goalkeeper
Nathan Ribar recorded his first collegiate complete-game shutout by making five saves in net.
The Jackets will try to carry over the momentum of their first win of the year to Wednesday, Oct. 14, when they travel to Washington & Jefferson for a PAC match. Start time is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
