Men's soccer nearly upsets Geneva

Waynesburg battles GT's in 2-1 overtime loss

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Oct. 16) – The Waynesburg University men's soccer team battled Geneva College in a home Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match on Friday night. The Yellow Jackets pushed the Golden Tornadoes to the limit, but ultimately fell 2-1 in overtime.

Waynesburg (1-12-1, 1-3-1) and Geneva (8-3-3, 3-0-1) played 80 minutes of scoreless soccer before the visitors found the back of the net to take a 1-0 lead late in the night. However, the Jackets showed their mettle and managed to finally break up the shutout in the 88th minute of play. Junior Zack Benedict notched the game-tying score that sent the contest into overtime.

Unfortunately, the Golden Tornadoes posted the golden goal on the first shot on net of the extra period, which came at the 91st minute of play.

Senior goalkeeper Nathan Ribar made seven saves in net to keep Waynesburg's hopes of victory alive.

The Jackets will look to get over the disheartening loss on Wednesday, Oct. 21, when they travel to Saint Vincent. Start time for the PAC showdown is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
