WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Oct. 16) – The Waynesburg University women's soccer team welcomed Geneva College to John F. Wiley Stadium for a Friday night Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) matchup. The two teams battled over 90 back-and-forth minutes with the visiting Golden Tornadoes ultimately picking up a 3-2 win.
Geneva (6-6, 2-3) jumped out to a 2-0 lead after 26:49 of play. Waynesburg (5-7, 2-3) bounced back in the second half thanks to sophomore
Melanie Byler, who scored twice to tie the match up. Byler tallied her first of the night during the 48
th minute of action. She knotted the score at 2-2 by scoring her sixth of the year in the 80
th minute of play off an assist from freshman
Natalie Fortna.
Unfortunately, the Golden Tornadoes managed to slip the game-winning goal past Waynesburg senior goalkeeper
Ciara Scott with just 6:12 showing on the game clock. Scott ended the night with eight saves.
Not surprisingly, most of the night's statistics were close to, if not even across the board. Waynesburg out-shot Geneva by a 17-16 margin, but the visitors held an 11-10 edge in shots on goal. The Jackets attempted four corner kicks to the Tornadoes' three tries from the flags.
Waynesburg will try to bounce back from the disheartening loss on Wednesday, Oct. 21, when it travels to Saint Vincent for a road PAC matchup. Start time is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
