WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Dec. 12) – The Waynesburg University women's basketball team won its second-straight game by defeating Westminster 75-51 in a Saturday Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) showdown. The Yellow Jackets never trailed in the victory.
Waynesburg (3-5, 2-1) jumped out to a 7-1 lead and never looked back en route to the win. Sophomore forward
Addy Knetzer opened the scoring with a layup to cap the game's first possession. Senior forward
Heather Davis knocked down a three-pointer, before freshman guard
Monica Starre closed the opening run with a layup.
The Jackets built up leads as large as 23 points (38-15) over the first two quarters of action. Waynesburg led 38-19 by the time the two squads broke for halftime.
The home team's lead swelled to as many as 33 points in the third quarter, which allowed Jacket head coach
Sam Jones to go deep to his bench throughout most of the second half. By the time the final whistle blew, 11 of the 15 Waynesburg players that saw the floor scored at least one point in the win.
Junior forward
Haley Delaney led a quartet of double-digit scorers for the Jackets by dropping in a game-high 12 points off the bench. Knetzer and sophomore guard MacKenna Drazich chipped in 11 points each, while reserve junior guard
Kassidy O'Keefe contributed 10 points to the winning effort.
Not surprisingly, Waynesburg held some sizeable advantages in multiple statistical categories. The Jackets out-rebounded Westminster (0-7, 0-3) by a 53-39 margin and swatted away six blocks, to just one for the Titans. The Jackets also dished out 15 assists to Westminster's seven.
The Jackets will go for a season-high third-straight win on Tuesday, Dec. 22, when they head to La Roche College. Tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
