GREENSBURG, Pa. (Dec. 19) – The Waynesburg University men's basketball team hit the road on Saturday to take on Pitt Greensburg. The Yellow Jackets played to a halftime tie, but wound up falling 97-88 to the Bobcats.
The Jackets (1-7) trailed for the majority of the first half, but a 6-0 run that began with a five minutes remaining in the period moved the visiting team ahead 38-37 with 3:24 showing on the clock. Senior guard
B.J. Durham knocked down a three-pointer to begin the scoring surge and sophomore guard
Kendall Paige tied the score at 37-37 with a field goal. Freshman wing
Brennan Smith scored the go-ahead point with a free throw.
Later in the half, Durham converted an old-fashioned three-point play to give Waynesburg a 43-41 edge with 1:23 left before halftime. Unfortunately, a last-second layup by UPG (6-2) allowed it to tie the contest at 45-45 when the two teams broke for their respective locker rooms.
The Bobcats opened the second half on a 10-2 run to take a 55-47 lead. UPG opened up multiple double-digit leads as the game wound to its conclusion. However, Waynesburg pulled to within four points of a comeback with 36 seconds remaining in the contest. Unfortunately, the Bobcats connected on five-of-six foul shots down the stretch to put away the victory.
Waynesburg was led by senior wing
D.J. Ritchie, who poured in a team-high 21 points in the loss. Durham added 19 points in the loss, while Knabb chipped in 12 on six-of-eight shooting. Senior forward

The Jackets close the 2015 calendar year on Tuesday, Dec. 29, when they travel to the two-day Holiday Inn College Park Classic, which is being hosted by Catholic University. Waynesburg plays the host Cardinals at 5 p.m.
