BETHANY, W.Va. (Feb. 14) – Saturday's slate of Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) men's basketball games featured one of the most intriguing matchups of the season as Waynesburg traveled to Bethany. The Yellow Jackets, which were tied for second place in the conference and riding a five-game winning streak, squared off with the Bison, who were in fourth place and winners of their previous eight contests. After 40 minutes of action, it was the Yellow Jackets who kept their long winning streak going thanks to a 78-53 victory.

Along with a solid team victory, Waynesburg also got to celebrate a significant individual milestone, as senior Jacob Fleegle scored his 1,000th point as a Yellow Jacket. He became the 33rd player in program history to accomplish the feat by scoring a game-high 17 points on an efficient seven-of-11 shooting effort from the field.

Waynesburg (15-9, 11-4) took a lot of the drama out of the game in the opening minutes by scoring 14 of the day's first 16 points. By the time halftime rolled around, the Yellow Jacket advantage had grown to 40-23. The Jackets maintained a high level of play through the second period and built up leads as large as 26 points by the time final buzzer of the contest sounded.

Waynesburg never trailed in the win and there was just one tie between the two teams, which came at a 2-2 score. Fleegle was one of four Jackets to reach double digits in scoring. Junior guard B.J. Durham dropped in 12 points in the win, while senior Kenny Klase tallied 11 points. The quartet was completed by senior Thomas Ellis, who chipped in 10 points to the winning effort.

Senior forward Jason Propst came just short of a double-double by going for eight points, a game-high 11 rebounds and a game-high four assists. Fleegle also dished out four helpers.

Waynesburg boasted significant advantages in multiple statistical categories. The Jackets tallied 23 assists to Bethany's (14-9, 9-5) six helpers. The victors also out-rebounded the Bison by a 50-to-34 margin, out-shot the home team from the floor (48 percent to 30 percent) and made 10 three-points to Bethany's three. Saturday's win also marked the first time that the Orange and Black men have swept Bethany in a two-game series since the 1999-2000 season.

The Jackets will wrap up the regular season on Wednesday, Feb. 18, when they host Geneva. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
