CINCINNATI, Ohio (March 20) – The Waynesburg University women's lacrosse team traveled to the College of Mt. St. Joseph on Friday night for its first-ever Ohio River Lacrosse Conference (ORLC) match. The Yellow Jackets scored first, but it was their only lead of the game, as they fell 15-9 to the Lions.
Waynesburg (1-1, 0-1) sophomore
Holly Bachman opened the scoring when she found the back of the net after 3:06 of play. The home team (1-3, 1-1) rebounded by scoring the next four goals to go up 4-1. The Jackets stayed in the game thanks to Bachman tallying two of the next three scores to trim the deficit to 5-3 with 10 minutes left in the opening period.
Unfortunately, Mt. St. Joseph scored the final four goals of the half to take a 9-3 lead into the halftime break. The Lions kept things rolling by firing in the first score of period number two to go up 10-3.
Waynesburg outscored the host team 6-5 over the final 23:17 of play. Junior Mikayla Vidosh notched the Jackets' fourth goal of the day. After Mt. St. Joseph scored the next two points, the Orange and Black notched the next three goals, two of which came from senior
Kelly Mehal.
After falling behind 13-7, the Jackets responded with back-to-back scores courtesy of Vidosh and Bachman. The Lions ended the contest with the final two goals of the day.
Bachman led the charge for Waynesburg by tying for the game lead with four goals. Vidosh notched a hat trick in the defeat, while Mehal completed the scoring. Senior goalkeeper
JoHanna Phillips made nine saves on the day.
The Jackets will play third-straight road game in Ohio to open 2015, when they travel to Defiance College tomorrow. Start time is scheduled for 12 p.m.
