WAYNESBURG, Pa. (April 15) – The Waynesburg University women's lacrosse team hosted Thiel for an Ohio River Lacrosse Conference (ORLC) match on Wednesday. The Yellow Jackets trailed by just two points late in the first half, but a 14-1 match-ending run by the Tomcats gave the visitors a 19-4 victory.
Thiel (9-6, 7-1) jumped out to a 2-0 lead, before sophomore
Holly Bachman found the back of the net for the Jackets (4-8, 2-5) to make the score 2-1. Back-to-back goals by the Tomcats expanded their lead to 4-1, before sophomore
Jess Rains split the pipes to trim her team's deficit down to 4-2.
Junior
Lauren Blair answered Thiel's fifth tally of the day to make the score 5-3 with 8:04 left to play in the opening period. Unfortunately, the Tomcats scored the final five goals of the half to take a 10-3 lead into halftime. That advantage grew to 12-3 in half number two, before Rains scored her second of the game. Thiel went on to rack up the final seven goals of the afternoon to seal the victory.
Senior goalkeeper
JoHanna Phillips started and played 54:44 in net. She made 10 saves on 28 shots on goal.
The Jackets return to action on Saturday, April 18, when they host Transylvania for an ORLC match. The senior day contest is scheduled to start at 1p.m.
