WAYNESBURG, Pa. (April 18) – The Waynesburg University women's lacrosse team hosted Transylvania for an Ohio River Lacrosse Conference match on Saturday. The Upset-minded Yellow Jackets battled for 60 minutes against the Pioneers, but just came up short of victory in an 11-8 loss.
Things started well for the Yellow Jackets (4-9, 2-6), who built up a 7-4 halftime lead against Transylvania (7-7, 6-2), which is the number-four team in the ORLC. Sophomore
Holly Bachman opened the scoring by finding the back of the net 4:31 into the contest. After the Pioneers tied the match at 1-1, Waynesburg embarked on a 4-0 run that put the home team ahead 5-1. Bachman, junior
Makayla Vidosh, sophomore
Jess Rains and sophomore
Abbie Miller notched goals in the surge.
The two teams alternated scores over the final 11:18 of the opening period and by the time they broke for halftime, the Jackets held a three-goal advantage.
Unfortunately, Waynesburg was unable to maintain its momentum from the opening period and scored just once in the second half. Bachman's team-high fourth goal of the day was the Jackets' only point of the period. Transylvania, meanwhile, piled up seven tallies during the final 30 minutes of play.
Goalkeeper
JoHanna Phillips, who was one of five players honored as part of the pregame senior day festivities, was solid in net. The veteran stopped 17-of-28 shots on goal.
The Jackets wrap up the regular season on Monday, April 20, with an ORLC home match against Franklin. Start time is scheduled for 5 p.m.
