WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Sept. 19) – Sophomores
Nikki Davis and
Melanie Byler netted second-half goals, but the Waynesburg University women's soccer team fell at home to Baldwin Wallace University 3-2. Waynesburg trailed 3-0 with just seven minutes to play but was able to trim the deficit to one before time ran out.
In the 84th minute, Davis scored Waynesburg's (2-3) first goal by burying a bouncing ball from 20 yards out. The ball passed just beyond the outstretched arms of Baldwin Wallace (4-2-2) keeper Emily Tallmadge and under the crossbar for her third marker of the season.
Just three minutes later, Byler brought Waynesburg within one with her first tally of the season. A feed from senior forward
Karleigh Murphey split the Baldwin Wallace defense, springing Byler for a breakaway goal. Unfortunately, the Orange and Black comeback stalled out one point short of forcing overtime.
Senior goalkeeper
Ciara Scott made seven saves in the loss for Waynesburg.
The Jackets will return to action on Monday with a road non-conference match at Franciscan. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m.
