STEUBENVILLE, Ohio (Sept. 21) – On Monday night, the Waynesburg women's soccer team lost a road contest versus Franciscan University, 4-1. The squads were tied 1-1 at halftime, but three second-half goals by Franciscan tipped the game in favor of the Barons.
Sophomore forward
Nikki Davis scored the lone goal for Waynesburg (2-4) just over three minutes into the match. She netted her marker following a free kick by sophomore defender
Sam Nichols. It was the team-leading fourth tally of the season for Davis, who has now scored in two consecutive matches.
Franciscan (3-3) countered in the 26
th minute to tie the score at 1-1. The Barons surged ahead in the 57
th minute and then recorded a pair of insurance markers to put the match out of reach.
Senior goalkeeper
Ciara Scott played all 90 minutes for the Yellow Jackets, recording three saves in the losing effort.
Waynesburg will look to rebound on Saturday at Marietta College. Kickoff is scheduled for 11 a.m.
