STEUBENVILLE, Ohio (Sept. 21) – The Waynesburg University men's soccer team jumped out to an early lead during Monday's road game at Franciscan University. Unfortunately, the 1-0 edge lasted just longer than 11 minutes, as the Barons tallied the final three scores of a 3-1 Yellow Jacket loss.
All four of the game's tallies were posted during an offensive flurry that spanned the first 17 minutes of play. Jacket (0-8) senior
Victor Browne got things going just 2:18 into the game, when he took a feed from freshman
Sam Almeter and gave the Jackets a 1-0 lead.
Unfortunately, the Barons (3-3-1) tied things up at 1-1 just before the 14-minute mark of the game. Franciscan went on to tack on insurance goals at the 16 and 17-minute marks, respectively, to seal up the victory. Neither offense was able to find the back of the net over the final 73 minutes of action.
Senior goalkeeper
Nathan Ribar had a busy day in net, as he racked up 10 saves.
Waynesburg returns to the pitch on Saturday, Sept. 26, when it comes home to host the University of Mount Union. Start time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
