LATROBE, Pa. (Sept. 4) – The Waynesburg University volleyball team opened its two-day run at the Saint Vincent Bearcat Challenge on Friday with matches against Allegheny and Carlow. The Yellow Jackets dropped both meetings by the final score of 3-0.
Waynesburg (0-3) got the day started against Allegheny (2-1) and fell by the set scores of (25-17, 25-20, 25-23). The Jackets were led by junior
Shannon Morgan, who put down a team-high nine kills against the Gators. Freshman
Sydni Ayers helped out the Jacket attack with 30 assists, while senior
Kourtney Skinner paced the Waynesburg defense with a squad-best 18 digs.
The late contest saw the Celtics (4-2) down the Orange and Black 25-20, 25-16, 25-13. Junior
Rachel Lang put down a Waynesburg-best eight kills. Ayers posted a match-high 19 assists, while freshman
Lexy Waldman dug out a Jacket-high 11 digs.
Waynesburg will play two more matches on Saturday at Saint Vincent College. The early contest pits the Jackets against the College of Wooster at 11 a.m. The Orange and Black closes up its stay in Latrobe against Franciscan at 3 p.m.
