Jacket women win third-straight game

Waynesburg defeats Thiel 74-63

GREENVILLE, Pa. (Jan. 13) – Sophomore forward Addy Knetzer produced her third consecutive double-double as the Waynesburg University women's basketball team defeated Thiel 74-63. The reigning Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Player of the Week continued her torrid streak by pouring in 19 points and pulling down 13 rebounds as the Yellow Jackets overcame a small second-half deficit to score a road conference win.

In addition to Knetzer, three other Yellow Jackets registered double figures in scoring. Junior guards Katie Gehlmann and Kassidy O'Keefe each scored 12 points, while junior forward Haley Delaney added 11 points in just 11 minutes of action.

With the game tied in the waning moments of the third quarter, freshman guard Monica Starre sank a pair of free throws to jump start a 10-0 Waynesburg run. After the period change, a Gehlmann three-pointer gave Waynesburg a five-point lead. The advantage ballooned to eight on a steal, layup and subsequent free throw by O'Keefe. Senior forward Maura Bobby capped off the run by scoring a fast-break layup.

A Thiel basket cut the lead to eight, but that was as close as the Tomcats came to a comeback victory. Waynesburg scored the next five points and never led by less than 10 points for the remainder of the contest.

The road victory was the third-straight for the Yellow Jackets and evened their overall record at 7-7. Waynesburg also improved to 5-2 versus conference competition. Thiel dropped to 1-13 overall and 1-6 in the PAC.

Waynesburg will be back in action on Saturday, when it welcomes Chatham to the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse. Tipoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
