Jacket women fall to W&J

Waynesburg comeback try comes up short in 77-64 setback

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Jan. 2) – Three solid quarters of play could not erase a rough first period for the Waynesburg University women's basketball team during its game with Washington & Jefferson on Saturday. The Yellow Jackets dropped the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) showdown with the Presidents by the final score of 77-64.

Waynesburg (4-7, 2-2) found itself on the wrong end of a 31-7 score at the end of 10 minutes of action, before out-scoring W&J (9-2, 4-0) 57-46 over the final three quarters of play. The home team held a 22-10 advantage over the Presidents in period number four.

Junior guard Katie Gehlmann knocked down four-of-eight three-pointers while scoring a team-high 16 points in the loss. Sophomore forward Addy Knetzer dropped in 12 points, with 10 of those markers coming at the free throw line. She also pulled down a game-high eight rebounds. Freshman guard Julie Deklaven chipped in a personal collegiate-high 11 points off the bench.

Waynesburg returns to the court on Wednesday, Jan. 6, with another home PAC game against Saint Vincent. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
