WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Jan. 30) – Despite another big game from sophomore forward
Addy Knetzer, the Waynesburg University women's basketball team was unable to get past Grove City in Saturday's Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) showdown. The Yellow Jackets trailed by 13 at halftime and never recovered during the 70-49 defeat.
After falling behind 4-0 to open the contest, Waynesburg (9-10, 7-5) bounced back with a 9-2 run that gave it a three-point advantage at 9-6. Grove City (8-11, 6-6) rebounded by scoring the final eight points of the first quarter to regain the advantage at 14-9.
The Wolverine lead swelled to 18-9 after scoring the first four points of quarter number two. The visiting team kept up the pressure on their hosts and went into the locker room up 31-18. Things didn't go much better for the Jackets in the second half, as GCC slowly played its way to the 21-point win, which was the biggest lead of the day.
Knetzer was the bright spot for Waynesburg in the loss, as she recorded her seventh double-double in her last eight games by posting game highs in both points (24) and rebounds (11). Senior forward
Maura Bobby chipped in nine points on the day.
The Jackets are back in action on Wednesday, Feb. 3, when they travel to Saint Vincent. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
