WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Oct. 1) – It was a festive Saturday at John F. Wiley Stadium. The Waynesburg University women's soccer team started its afternoon by celebrating senior day and ended it with a 1-0 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) victory over Bethany.
Waynesburg (4-5-1, 1-0) kept the pressure on Bethany (2-7, 0-1) over the entirety of the contest. The Yellow Jacket attack finally broke through for the game's only goal in the 11
th minute. Minutes after being honored in the pregame ceremony, senior
Melanie Burchfield scored off a rebound that was produced by a shot from sophomore
Natalie Fortna.
That score was just enough offense for freshman goalkeeper
Courtney Syfert, who made three saves en route to her third shutout of the season. Waynesburg peppered Bethany with 20 shots on the day, 13 of which were on goal.
The Jackets are next in action on Wednesday, Oct. 5, when they host Thomas More. Start time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
