WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Oct. 22) – The Waynesburg University women's volleyball team wrapped up the home portion of its schedule on Saturday by hosting a tri-match at the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse. The Yellow Jackets dropped 3-0 final scores to both Thiel and Pitt Greensburg.
Waynesburg (1-25, 0-19) battled through tough first and third sets against the Tomcats (12-16, 5-10). Unfortunately, the Jackets were unable to secure wins in either, as Thiel scored a 25-21, 25-13, 25-23 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) victory.
The home team ended its senior day by hosting UPG (7-19) in a non-conference match. Again, Waynesburg got off to a strong start, but couldn't carry it through to a victory. The Bobcats weathered a hotly contested first set to take the contest 25-23, 25-18, 25-16.
Senior
Shannon Morgan performed well in in her final home collegiate match. The Waynesburg native averaged a team-high 2.50 kills per set over the two contests. Sophomore
Lexy Waldman added 2.33 kills per set, while fellow sophomore
Jordyn Wyllie chipped in 2.17 successful attacks.
Sophomore
Sydni Ayers was the Jackets' offensive catalyst, averaging 7.5 assists per set. Waynesburg featured four different players with at least nine digs each. Freshman
Alyssa Proper led the quartet with 17, while Ayers followed with 12. Sophomore
Cassidy Guiser and senior
Emily Nowakowski chipped in nine each on the day.
The Jackets return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 25, when they make a road trip to Mount Aloysius. Start time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
