GROVE CITY, Pa. (Oct. 26) – It was a tale of two halves for the Waynesburg University women's soccer team when it faced Grove City on Wednesday. The Yellow Jackets played the Wolverines to a 0-0 halftime tie, before the home team broke through for a four second-period goals in a 4-0 shutout.
Despite being out-shot 10-1 in the first 45 minutes, Waynesburg (5-11-1, 2-6) was able to keep the Wolverines (13-4, 6-2) off the board. Only one of those attempts was on goal.
Unfortunately, things changed in half number two, as GCC launched 13 more attempts, eight of which were on net. Four of those shots on goal found the back of the net to lead the home team to victory.
The visiting Jackets were outshot 23-1 on the day. Freshman goalkeeper
Courtney Syfert started and stopped five-of-nine shots on goal over 81:47 of play. Fellow freshman
M'Kenna Murphy finished out the game by not facing a shot over the final 8:13 of game time.
Waynesburg wraps up the 2016 season on Saturday, Oct. 29, with a road trip to Westminster. Start time is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
