NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Dec. 17) – Four Waynesburg University wrestlers posted 3-1 records to highlight the team's trip to the annual Gator "Boots" Duals. Unfortunately, those individual efforts didn't yield as much team success, as the Yellow Jackets went 0-4 on the day.
Junior
Tristan Buxton (125) improved his overall record to 22-2 on the year with two decision wins and a forfeit. Classmate
Derek Hull won his first three bouts of the day at 174 pounds, including one by pin, before dropping his final contest of the trip. Senior
Ryan Shank scored a major decision in his trio of victories. His only loss came to the number-two ranked 184-pounder in the country. Sophomore heavyweight
Jake Evans went 3-1 with a pin and a major decision.
Waynesburg (5-9) was hampered all day by two forfeits in each match. The Jackets dropped their first contest 32-15 to Elmhurst, before losing a frustrating 22-18 match to Simpson. The Orange and Black's day ended with a 29-13 loss to number-23 Ferrum and a 36-10 setback to Luther (Iowa), which hosted the event.
The Jackets are off until 2017, when they return to competition with their first ever match against Thomas More. The Jan. 6 meeting will serve as the kickoff to the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) season for Waynesburg.
