Jackets roll to third-straight win

Waynesburg takes down Thiel 83-55

GREENVILLE, Pa. (Dec. 7) – The Waynesburg University women's basketball team traveled to Thiel on Wednesday for a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) matchup with the Tomcats. The Yellow Jackets rolled to their third-straight win by the final score of 83-55.

Wednesday's efforts produced Waynesburg's (5-2, 3-0) best defensive showing of the season. The Jackets' 83 points also marked its second-highest point total of the 2016-17 campaign and their largest margin of victory.

Waynesburg came flying out of the gate to take a 25-5 lead at the end of the first quarter. The second period saw each team produce 17 points to bring about a 42-22 halftime lead. The Orange and Black was able to pull away in the second half by outscoring Thiel (3-5, 1-2) 41-33 over the final 20 minutes of play.

Junior forward Addy Knetzer continued to be the model of consistency with her sixth double-double this year. The standout post player shot 11-of-18 from the floor en route to a game-high 23 points. She also pulled down a contest-best 13 rebounds.

Knetzer led a multi-faceted Waynesburg offensive effort that included 14 points from senior forward Haley Delaney. Delaney knocked down all three of her attempts from beyond the three-point arc. Junior MacKenna Drazich chipped in 10 points, nine rebounds, three assists and three steals over 23 points off the bench. Senior guard Katie Gehlmann and her sophomore backcourt mate Anna Bartman both hit a pair of three-pointers and tallied eight points each.

The Yellow Jackets held major advantages from long range and on the glass. Waynesburg connected on 10-of-30 three-point attempts, while the Tomcats knocked down just 12 percent (three-of-25) of their tries from long distance. The visiting team out-rebounded Thiel 53-to-36.

Waynesburg is back in action on Saturday, Dec. 10, when it plays host to Saint Vincent. Tipoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
