Jacket baseball hosts UPG

Waynesburg fall 10-1

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (March 16) – The Waynesburg University baseball team played its first home game of 2016 on Wednesday. The Yellow Jackets hosted Pitt Greensburg and dropped a 10-1 final score.

UPG (6-4) opened the scoring with a run in the first inning and two more in the second to take a 3-0 lead. Waynesburg (1-8) got onto the scoreboard with an unearned run in the bottom of the third to trim its deficit down to 3-1.

Unfortunately, the Bobcats tallied a score in the fourth and two more in the fifth, eighth and ninth frames to close out the win. Waynesburg was out-hit 16-to-six in the setback.

Junior Jacob Meyer got the start and worked 4.2 innings on the mound. He suffered the loss after allowing six runs, four of which were earned, on nine hits and a walk. Meyer was the first of four Jackets to toe the rubber in the loss, including freshman Waynesburg native Tyler Morris, who tossed one scoreless inning of no-hit ball in the ninth.

Junior centerfielder Josh Hausler went two-for-three at the plate with a walk and a run scored to pace the Waynesburg offense.

The Jackets are back in action tomorrow with a road doubleheader at Penn State Behrend. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
