Jackets shut out Bethany

Resnik tosses complete-game two-hitter in 1-0 win

BETHANY, W.Va. (April 12) – Over three-plus years as a Yellow Jacket, Brian Resnik has earned a reputation as one of the top pitchers in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC). Even after 47 appearances, 42 of which were starts, Resnik outdid himself during Tuesday's nine-inning PAC game at Bethany.

The righty allowed just two singles and didn't walk a batter as the Jackets (7-15, 5-3) completed a three-game season sweep of the Bison (6-16, 3-8) with a 1-0 win. The senior ace racked up 10 strikeouts as he won his third-straight decision to improve to 3-3 on the year.

Waynesburg out-hit Bethany by a 9-2 margin, but senior left fielder Matt Bensinger's team-leading fourth homerun of the season provided the only run of the game. The veteran teed off on the solo shot in the top of the fourth inning.

Senior Brent Williams took advantage of a rare start by going two-for-four with a double. Bensinger also notched two hits and reached base on a walk.

Resnik has been almost impossible to score on over his past three starts. He has allowed just two runs, one of which was earned, over 23 innings of work. He struck out 21 batters, allowed one walk and has holding opposing players to a .160 batting average.

The Jackets will go for their sixth-straight win tomorrow, when they travel to Geneva for a nine-inning PAC contest. First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
