WAYNESBURG, Pa. (April 6) – The Waynesburg University baseball team hosted Bethany for a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader on Wednesday. The Yellow Jackets rode another stellar performance from ace pitcher
Brian Resnik to a 5-1 win in game one, before walking off for a 5-4 victory in the late contest.

Resnik won his second-straight decision on the mound by giving up six singles and no walks over the complete-game triumph. He struck out six Bison (6-13, 3-5) and saw his season ERA drop to 4.15.

Bethany scored its lone run of the opener in the top of the second. Waynesburg (4-15, 2-3) locked down the opposing hitters over the final five innings of play, while also taking advantage of four Bison errors to pull away from the visitors.

After scoring a pair of unearned runs to take a 2-1 lead in the fifth, the Jackets sealed up the victory with a three-spot in the sixth. Freshman
Eli Kucherawy, freshman
Tyler Reis and junior
Josh Hausler all notched RBI singles.

The late contest was a much more back-and-forth affair than the game one. Once again, Bethany scored first with a tally in the top of the second. The Jackets quickly responded with a triple by junior catcher
Ben Miller in the bottom of the inning. Miller plated Kucherawy to tie the score, before coming home himself on a fielding error.

The Bison answered with a run in the fifth and two more in the sixth to forge a 4-2 advantage. The Orange and Black cut the deficit in half on an RBI single by junior designated hitter
Jonathon Kletzli in the bottom of the sixth.

Trailing 4-3 in the bottom of the seventh, Waynesburg pulled out the victory thanks to some unlikely heroes. Junior shortstop
Nathan Mori drove in pinch-runner
Jake Rush to tie the game at 4-4, before Reis came through in the clutch with a walk-off single that allowed freshman pinch-runner
Alex Slates to sprint home and set off the Jacket victory celebration.

Junior pitcher
Derek Whalen scored his first collegiate win on the mound after tossing a perfect seventh inning of relief. Whalen replaced junior starter
Luke Carter, who gave up four earned runs on six hits and two walks over six frames of work. He struck out four opposing hitters in the no-decision.

The Jackets, who have won three of their last four games, are scheduled to travel to Geneva for a seven-inning PAC doubleheader on Friday. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
