FRANKLIN, Ind. (April 9) – The Waynesburg University women's lacrosse team wrapped up its two-game weekend road trip in the state of Indiana on Saturday. The Yellow Jackets faced off with Franklin College in an Ohio River Lacrosse Conference (ORLC) match, and came up on the short end of an 11-7 final score.
Waynesburg (1-8, 1-3) looked primed to upset the Grizzlies (5-2, 3-0), who are in second place in the ORLC standings, after jumping out to a 2-0 lead on a pair of goals from senior
Jess Rains, who split the pipes twice within the first 2:13 of action. Franklin fired back with a four-goal spurt of its own to go up 4-2.
Rains struck for her third goal of the first half to make the score 4-3 with just over one minute to play before the halftime break. Unfortunately, the Grizzlies managed one more tally before the break to go up 5-3.
Franklin took firm control of the game with the first four goals of period number two. After falling behind 9-3, junior
Abbie Miller broke up the opposition's scoring run with a goal with 16:26 left in the contest. Rains assisted on the tally. After the Grizzlies made the score 10-4, Waynesburg scored three of the final four goals of the day.
Rains led all players with five total points on a game-high four goals and an assist. Miller picked up two scores of her own.
Senior goalkeeper
