GREENSBURG, Pa. (Sept. 15) – It took a few extra minutes, but the Waynesburg University women's soccer team finally broke through for a 1-0 overtime win over Pitt Greensburg on Thursday. It was the Jackets' first victory in extra time since Sept. 4, 2015.
After the game's two keepers combined to stop all 10 shots on goal, nine of which came in the second half, Waynesburg (2-3) sophomore
Sam Nichols tallied the game winner during the 98
th minute of action. It was Nichols' first score of the year, making her the fifth Jacket to find the back of the net this year.
The late tally was just enough offensive support for freshman goalkeeper
Courtney Syfert, who stopped all four shots that UPG (1-5) put on goal. Junior forward
Melanie Byler attempted a team-high three shots during the victory.
Waynesburg will look to build off its thrilling win on Saturday, Sept. 17, when it travels to Capital. Start time is scheduled for 2 p.m.
