Volleyball plays tri-match at Thiel

Jackets falls to Thiel and Washington & Jefferson

GREENVILLE, Pa. (Sept. 17) – The Waynesburg University volleyball team hit the road for a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) tri-match at Thiel College. The Yellow Jackets fell 3-0 to Washington & Jefferson and 3-1 to the host Tomcats.
 
Waynesburg (0-11, 0-5) opened its day against W&J (8-2, 3-1) and fell 25-12, 25-17, 25-14. The Jackets ended the trip by taking set one against Thiel (6-7, 1-2) 25-17. Unfortunately, the Orange and Black was unable to recapture those winning ways, as the final three sets went 25-9, 25-18 and 25-22 to the Tomcats.
 
The senior duo of Shannon Morgan and Rachel Lang paced the Waynesburg offense with a combined 10 kills each over the tri-match. Sophomore Sydni Ayers did her part to help out the attack with 36 assists over seven sets.
 
The Jackets' defensive effort was spearheaded by freshman Alyssa Proper's 26 digs, which was the top total on the team. Proper also paced her team with four aces. Waynesburg's net defense showed signs of improvement with 8.5 total blocks. Lang recorded one solo stuff, while helping out on four others.
 
Waynesburg returns to competition on Wednesday, Sept. 21, when it hosts its second-straight PAC tri-match at the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse. It will be the Jackets' third-straight conference tri-match overall and features Chatham and Geneva. Start time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
