NEW CONCORD, Ohio (Sept. 7) – Freshman
Emma Gozzard's first collegiate goal was just enough offense for the Waynesburg University women's soccer team to claim victory on Wednesday night. That score combined with some stellar work in net to produce a 1-0 Yellow Jacket victory in Muskingum.
Gozzard beat the opposing keeper in the 34
th minute of action to give the Jackets (1-2) their first win of the season. The rookie's tally backed up a combined six-save night by a pair of first-year Orange and Black keepers.
Courtney Syfert got the start and made two saves over the first 45 minutes between the pipes. She was relieved at halftime by classmate
M'Kenna Murphy, who turned back all four shots she faced in period number two.
The Waynesburg offense peppered the opposition (1-2) with 17 shots, 10 of which were on net. Junior forward
Nikki Davis led the assault with a team-high five shots in the victory.
Waynesburg returns to action on Friday, Sept. 9, with a home game against Oberlin. Start time is scheduled for 8 p.m.
