WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Oct. 14) – The Waynesburg University men's soccer team hosted Thiel for senior day on Saturday. The Yellow Jackets enjoyed a successful day at John F. Wiley Stadium, which included a 3-0 win over Thiel.
Waynesburg (5-6-2, 3-2) wasted little time in finding the back of the net, doing so in the ninth minute. Sophomore
Nate Kummer did the honors by converting a penalty kick.
The home team's advantage stayed at 1-0 through the halftime break, but doubled it just minutes into period number two. Freshman
Tyler Sisler continued a fantastic first collegiate season by tallying the first of his two goals on the day. Fellow rookie
Cam Sutherland set up the insurance tally.
Sisler completed her first multi-goal game with the Jackets with just under 12 minutes remaining in the contest to put the game out of reach. Junior
Matt Hlasnick set up the game's final score.
The Orange and Black's solid offensive day was more than enough support for the freshman duo of
Adam Dolan and
Daniel Brode, who combined for a shutout in goal. Dolan stopped all six shots on goal that he faced over 81:52 of play to earn the decision in net. Brode played the final eight-plus minutes of the win.
Waynesburg put together a solid day on the pitch, despite a Thiel (4-7-1, 1-2-1-) team that committed 21 fouls and was hit with four yellow cards.
The Jackets are back in action on Saturday, Oct. 21, when they host Grove City for a PAC matchup. The game will serve as Waynesburg's alumni day and is scheduled to get started at 3:30 p.m.
