CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. (Oct. 7) – The Waynesburg University women's soccer team put together one of its best efforts in recent history against traditional national power Thomas More. The Yellow Jackets stayed right with the Saints over 90 minutes of Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play, but came up just short in a 2-1 match.
Thomas More (8-3-1, 3-0) opened the scoring during the 16
th minute to jump ahead 1-0, which was also the score at halftime. The visiting Jackets (5-5-1, 1-2-0) tallied the first goal of the second period when senior
Melanie Byler buried her team-leading sixth goal of the season. Her 14 total points are also tops on the team.
Byler's tally was a significant one, as it not only tied the score at 1-1, but it was the first time the Black and Orange and had scored against Thomas More since 2012.
Unfortunately for Waynesburg, the Saints notched the game-winning goal with 32:32 showing on the game clock. Sophomore goalkeeper
Courtney Syfert did what she could in net to keep hopes of an upset alive by making nine saves over 90 minutes in net.
The Jackets are back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 11, when they heat to Bethany for a PAC match with the Bison. Start time is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
