Jacket women fall in PAC semis

Waynesburg's tournament run ends with 71-43 loss at Thomas More

CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. (Feb. 24) – The Waynesburg University women's basketball team hit the road for the semifinal round of the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) tournament. The fourth-seeded Yellow Jackets faced undefeated top seed Thomas More on the Saints' home court and fell by the final score of 71-43.

With the loss, the Yellow Jackets (16-11) saw its 2016-17 season come to an end, as well as its three-game winning streak. Thomas More (26-0), which is currently ranked second in the nation, will face number-three seed Saint Vincent tomorrow in the PAC title game.

The first half was controlled by the Saints, who held a 40-11 lead at the break. Waynesburg responded by outscoring the Saints 14-11 in the third quarter and winning the second half 32-31.

Though it came in a losing effort, junior forward Addy Knetzer, who was named first-team All-PAC earlier in the evening, posted her 16th double-double of the year. Knetzer set game highs in both scoring (17 points) and rebounding (18 boards) over 30 minutes of play.

Senior guard Katie Gehlmann, who was lauded as an honorable mention All-PAC pick, chipped in 11 points and was Waynesburg's only other player to reach double digits in scoring.
